What is Xtandi?

Xtandi (anzulotamide) is an anti-androgen. It works on preventing the action of androgens (male hormones) in the body. Enzalutamide is used to treat men with a particular type of prostate cancer. This type of prostate cancer does not respond to other treatments for reducing testosterone in the male hormone and also extends to other parts of the body. This drug belongs to a class of drugs known as anti-androgens (anti-testosterone). It works by blocking the effects of testosterone to reduce the growth and spread of prostate cancer.

Xtandi is an androgenic receptor antagonist. Chemical name 4- {3- [4-Sino-3- (trifluoromethyl) phenyl] -5,5-dimethyl-4-oxo-2-sulfanylideneimidazolidin-1-yl} -2-fluoro-N-methylbenzamide.

The molecular weight is 464.44 and the molecular formula is C21H16F4N4O2S.

Xtandi is used to treat prostate cancer.

How to use Xtandi

You can take Xtandi with or without food. Take medicine at the same time every day.

Before you start taking insulatamide and every time you fill in, read the patient's patient information from your pharmacist if available. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions.

160 mg (four capsules of 40 mg) once a day

Symptoms of over dose 

If you take too much, stop treatment with XTANDI and start general supportive measures with a half-life of 5.8 days. In a dose escalation study, no seizures were reported at 240 mg / day, while 3 cases of seizure were reported, each of 360 mg, 480 mg, and 600 mg daily. Patients may be at increased risk of seizure due to excessive consumption.

Side effects of Xtandi

If you have serious side effects, including: back pain, anesthesia or needle / weakness / pain in your arms or legs, falling, breaking bones, pink / red urine, inform your doctor.

This medicine may increase your blood pressure. If your blood pressure is checked regularly, tell your doctor if the results are high.

If you have serious side effects such as: persistent headaches, decreased consciousness, seizures, sudden changes in vision, mental changes / mood (such as memory problems, confusion). If you take medicine, call your doctor once if you have:

Extreme back pain, pain or weakness in your lower body;

Problem walking or standing;

Severe and worsening of numbness or tingling; or

Sudden loss of control of the bladder or intestine

Stop using this medication and contact your doctor if you have:

Seizure (black and white or seizure);

Red or pink urine

Symptoms of lung infection - fever, cough with yellow or green mucus, chest pain, wheezing, feeling weakened. Or

Signs of swelling in your brain - severe headache, tinnitus, vision problems, energy shortages, confusion, weakness.

If you have any side effects, your cancer treatment may be delayed or stopped permanently.

The usual side effects of Xtandi may include:

Headache, dizziness, swelling;

Low feeling of breathing, feeling weak or tired;

Increased blood pressure (severe headache, blurred vision, stroke in the neck or ears);

Numbness, burning pain or feeling itchy under your skin;

Irritation (heat, redness, warm feeling);

Back pain, joint or muscle pain, bone pain;

Swelling in your arms or legs;

Loss of appetite, weight loss;

Diarrhea, constipation; or

Cold symptoms like nose, sneezing, sore throat.

Drugs that may interact with Xtandi

Other medications can affect the removal of enzalutamide from your body, which may affect how enzalutamide works. Examples include rifamycins (such as rifabutin, rifampin), seizure medications (such as phenobarbital, phenytoin), St. John's wort, among others.

Enzalutamide can speed up the removal of other medications from your body, which may affect how they work. Examples of affected drugs include asunaprevir, cobicistat, ergot alkaloids (such as dihydroergotamine, ergotamine), lurasidone, fentanyl, pimozide, quinidine, sirolimus, suvorexant, tacrolimus, voriconazole, among others. Many drugs can interact with enzalutamide. This includes prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products. Not all possible interactions are listed in this drug guide.

For whom Xtandi might not be safe

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking amide, if you are allergic to it, or if you have an allergy. This product may contain inactive material that can cause allergic reactions and other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more information.

Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially high blood pressure, seizures, risk factors for seizures (such as brain damage, stroke, brain tumors). Xtandi can increase the risk of seizures. Tell your doctor if you want to make sure this medicine is safe for you.

Epilepsy or other seizure disorders; or

Breast cancer, stroke, or brain tumor (in the past 12 months).

This medicine should not be used in women, especially during pregnancy or lactation. It may feed on a child who is not born or breastfeeding. Consult your doctor for details.

Men who have a pregnant partner should start using condoms during sexual activity during treatment with enzalutamide and within 3 months after treatment. Men with a female partner at the gestational age who are not pregnant should start using condom and other forms of birth control when using enzalutamide and stop for 3 months after treatment.

Warnings of Xtandi

Since this medication may rarely cause seizure in some people, ask your doctor if you need to do activities in which sudden acute consciousness may cause serious harm to you or others.

This medicine may cause you dizziness. Alcohol or marijuana causes dizziness. Do not drive, use machines, or do anything that you need to be alert to as long as you can safely do it. Limit alcohol drinks. Talk to your doctor if you use marijuana.
